What Is Osteopathy
Osteopathy recognises that much of the pain and disability we suffer stems from abnormalities in our body’s structure and function. It is suitable for almost anyone and can contribute to the treatment and management of a wide range of conditions such as, problems with muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints. The treatment involves gentle, manual techniques – easing pain, reducing swelling and improving mobility.
One of the main purposes of osteopathy is pain relief. Osteopathy helps people of all ages who suffer from pain, tackling complaints ranging from back pain, headaches, pregnancy pain, whiplash, sports and work-related injuries to arthritis and sciatica.
To an osteopath, for your body to work well, its structure must also work well. So we work to restore your body to a state of balance, where possible without the use of drugs or surgery. We use touch, physical manipulation, and specific muscle stretching to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms. We may also provide advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms from recurring.
